MITT : ARE YOU AN ANCHOR BABY?

Posted on 26 January 2008 by Mario

(THIS IS A RE-POST FOR OUR NEW AMIGOS FINDING US VIA THE DAVE MONTGOMERY ARTICLE IN THE WASHINGTON POST TODAY. THIS WAS FIRST POSTED ON DECEMBER 20, 2007.)

Mitt Romney needs to come out of his Mexican heritage closet. In fact Mitt Romney,as a person that is against sanctuary cities, should explain how it feels for him to be from a family that was given sanctuary by Mexico in the late 1800’s. Yup Mitt has lost of “esplaining” to do.

Turns out the guy who fired his gardeners twice, once for being undocumented then again for well… still being undocumented, is part of the tangled cross border existence that many of his anti-immigrant supporters would like to deny and eradicate.

Many Mormons fled to Mexico’s open arms and set up a Colonias in order to practice their religion freely. When the U.S. won the war against Mexico many Mexican Mormons went deeper into Mexico to escape the pesky anti-polygamy efforts then in play. The prestigious Romney family was part of the move to set up sanctuary in Chihuahua Mexico. Mitt’s granddad gave birth to Mitt’s dad there- although there is some dispute as to exactly where in Mexico Mitts dad was born. Some say Mitt’s dad George was born in an American embassy in Mexico and that would make him technically U.S. born some say not so. Regardless Mitt was born in the U.S. and took advantage of the same 14th amendment that Lou Dobbs and others believe should only have ever applied to former slaves.

While the public record is blurry I am sure that the man that would lead the U.S. can provide all the documentation necessary to set the record straight. So here are the questions: Where was Mitts dad born? Was Mitts Grandfather or Grandmother Mexican? If so does the Romney family still believe that the 14th amendment applies to non-slaves? If they no longer believe that the 14th amendment applies to non-slaves, why the flip-flop? Bottom line does Mitt consider himself to be an “anchor baby”?

Mitt Romney went as far as firing his gardeners twenty-one days before Christmas to show the anti-immigrant crowd that he is a hardliner on immigration. Romney has proudly said he is now against sanctuary cities. The American people have a right to know when he believes that hard-line ends and especially when he believes that hard line began.
