Where Do Latinos Go Now?
Posted on 16 May 2008 by nuestrav

Latino voters, who supported Sen Hillary Clinton by a 2-to-1 margin in the primary elections, could face a different choice in November if Clinton is out of the race. Latino media and blogs are speculating about where these voters would go in a face-off between Barack Obama and John McCain.
No one has bragging rights over the Latino vote, not yet. And after the massive immigrant rights marches of 2006, the old token “tamale politics” won’t work — if they ever did.
With Sen. Barack Obama emerging as the probable opponent to Republican Sen. John McCain, the Latino media and blogosphere have been abuzz with speculation on how the two might fare head-to-head.
Obama did poorly among Latinos against Sen. Hillary Clinton (On Super Tuesday, Latinos voted for Clinton by a 2-to-1 margin). The conventional wisdom has been that he is woefully vulnerable in this demographic. But McCain is not necessarily ideally positioned, according to Los Angeles political columnist Pilar Marrero.

This graduate school educate Hispanic/Latina will not be supporting Mr. Obama in the fall. I will sit the next election.
This Sunday, as custom I went to listen to your show- Johnny Wendell was on the air. His first topic can Obama win. I called to make 3 points.
#1 Juan Crow laws down in the South- and their practices by African Americans against Hispanic Americans (The Nation magazine)
#2 Donna Brazile comments on CNN as to how the party doesn’t need ‘working class Americans and Hispanics to win’
#3 Without inclusion of all who work for a living including Hispanics the party will not win the general election.
This sweet young lady didn’t even realized she was practicing racism. I had not completed stating my 3 points and she hung up. I called again thinking she had accidentally lost the call. I got through immediately she laughed and hung up. Now I am truly upset called again – answered immediately- I said to her do you realized you just practise racism she laughed and hung up.
This very short exchange for me magnified the problems with the campaign and why the Obama/Democrats will not win in November.
You see there was a time I believed any of ours would do, no longer. I am truly inspired by Mr Obama’s speeches, but speeches do not put food on my table nor keep a roof over my head.
Our country is in horrible shape, if anyone believes that this will change in a year or two you are dreaming. I will make many many years to reverse what we have done, and even then it will never what people imagine it to be.
I have received 2 emails from the DNC requesting money, it will not be forthcoming. A party that believes it can win by just focusing on one side of our party, can not. You see the Republics pay attention the the ultra right wing of their party, ours doesn’t even look at the center.
As I said in the beginning this center to far left member of the party will not participate.
