Clinton campaign chair and ex-Dem leader Terry McAuliffe called for a border shut down and a mass deportation plan yesterday on 89.9 California Public Radio.

Terry said that “I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican, we all agree you’ve gotta shut the borders down. People who are coming into this nation taking our jobs.”

Terry the only person that took your job was Howard Dean and thank god for that.

McAuliffe led the Democratic Party during a period when it lost Latino market share. The ex party leaders’ high speed thoughtless rambling on one of the most divisive and emotional issues of the day show the disregard and lack of attention to Latino issues that are part of his DNC legacy.

McAuliffe has been championed by those in awe of his fundraising ability. However many tell me that a closer look at the numbers reveal a closer proximity to Chairman Dean’s numbers than Terry’s followers or his own ego would admit.

Beyond the bank account numbers one clear set of figures stands out : Latino approval ratings. Latino voters, 35% of which were thought lost forever under McAuliffe’s’ leadership to the GOP, are tentatively back in the Dem fold. No doubt that Chairman Deans’ instincts on where the immigration debate would end up were right on the money. McAuliffe, who recently confessed to right wing talk show host Dennis Prager that he doesn’t read the blogs, should buy a laptop. If McAuliffe browsed the “internets” he would understand the meaning of the immigration debate to Latinos, to the progressive base, and to the future of the Democratic party.

Hillary should also take note on the potential impact that her campaign chair could have on her future prospects. Latinos have choices in 08. In the past, and apparently now, McAuliffe has chosen to ignore Latinos, if McAuliffe is not educated soon Latinos could be more than willing to return the favor.
