CLINTON CAMPAIGN DISTANCES ITSELF FROM MCAULIFFE REMARKS

Clinton campaign spokesperson Phil Singer contacted us to create distance between Senator Hillary Clinton and her campaign chair Terry McAuliffe on the immigration issue today.

Nuestravoice.com had posted earlier that McAuliffe , ex Dem Party Chair, had endorsed the idea of deportation as part of a solution to the immigration system breakdown in the United States. Referring to immigrants McAuliffe said “ we need to have a plan to get them back to the countries they came from”

According to a written and verbal statement from Singer Senator Clinton does not agree with McAuliffe. “these comments do not reflect Senator Clinton’s thinking or her position on immigration.”

While the immigration issue itself has never until now been a top policy priority for Latino voters it has become a measuring stick that our community is using to gauge a candidates knowledge about and sensitivity to our families. Yesterday on public radio McAuliffe came up short on that measure. Today Senator Clinton graciously acknowledged that.

Senator Clinton supports comprehensive reform that fixes our broken immigration system, strengthens our border security and sanctions employers who break the law. She has supported legislation that provides an earned path to citizenship while respecting the enormous contributions that immigrants make and continue to make to our country.”
