MCAULIFFE RESPONDS TO NUESTRAVOICE.COM

We received a response via email today from Terry McAuliffe. The statement clarifies that McAuliffe words were his own and not those of Senator Clintons. The clarification was needed since on the radio show ex Dem Chair McAuliffe made his pro-deportation statement to a caller that was asking that candidate Clinton take a harsher position on immigration.
However the rest of his statement was lacking. McAuliffe claimed that his position was identical to that of the Clintons. Based on what he said on the radio that leaves me confused.
Was Terry McAuliffe’s call for deportation a disingenuous ploy to pacify a random immigrant basher? Was this a fake to the “right”?
Current polls show that most Americans desire a compassionate approach to immigration reform. The “center” of the immigration debate lies with those that support a path to citizenship and reject mass deportation and other policies that tear immigrant families apart and devastate local economies.
Let’s not return to the old Dem days when we cowed so much to the right that we lost both the political center and the moral one.
Here is the McAuliffe statement in its entirety:
“My comments on a local radio program yesterday did not reflect Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s positions. Let me be clear, like the Senator, I support comprehensive immigration reform that respects our nation’s immigrant heritage and provides an earned path to citizenship, while maintaining strong, secure borders and respect for the law.”
